Quantum Memory Physicist / Engineer
About This Role
About the role
Qunett is seeking a Quantum Memory Physicist / Engineer to run cryogenic, resonant-excitation experiments on group-IV color centers in diamond integrated with diamond nanophotonic structures. This role owns day-to-day operation of a memory test station and executes pulsed optical + microwave/RF sequences that support spin–photon interface development and near-term networking primitives (e.g., time-bin photonic qubits and related readout/characterization). Work includes resonant PLE/linewidth tracking, optical Rabi/pi-pulse calibration, and photon-collection optimization from nanofabricated devices into single-mode fiber.
Required qualifications
• PhD in Physics, Applied Physics, EE, or closely related field
• Hands-on experience with diamond color centers (NV/SiV/SnV) with quantitative spectroscopy and time-domain measurements (PLE, linewidth/spectral diffusion, lifetime, count-rate budgets)
• Experience implementing pulsed optical control + time-tagged photon detection, and extracting metrics via quantitative fitting
• Experience with microwave/RF control hardware for spin experiments (pulse generation, amplification, switching, calibration)
• Python-based automation/analysis used in a lab context (instrument control, experiment orchestration, pipelines, calibration)
Preferred qualifications
• Direct experience with diamond color center nanophotonics (waveguides/cavities/nanopillars), including resonant excitation under tight background suppression and efficient fiber coupling / packaging constraints
• Experience with spin–photon interface characterization: cyclic optical transitions, optical pumping, and photon indistinguishability/HOM visibility as system metrics
• Experience with AWG/FPGA/fast timing (AOM/EOM gating, marker/sync alignment, closed-loop calibration of pi-pulses, automated scans over detuning/power)
