Quantum Algorithm Developer - Hamiltonian Simulation
About This Role
Our client is hiring a Quantum Algorithm Scientist to focus on Hamiltonian simulation. You will design and benchmark simulation algorithms across physics, chemistry, and materials applications, expressing dynamics problems as concrete circuits and quantifying their cost on real hardware.
The work spans theory and implementation: choosing and refining the right simulation method, then evaluating its resource demands across noisy near-term and fault-tolerant systems.
What You'll Do
• Design, analyse, and optimise Hamiltonian simulation algorithms for physics, chemistry, and materials applications
• Advance simulation techniques such as product formulas, qubitisation, and block encoding, and benchmark their performance
• Run end-to-end resource estimation for simulation workloads on near-term and fault-tolerant hardware
• Translate customer and domain problems involving dynamics and time evolution into well-posed quantum tasks
• Prototype and benchmark circuit compilation, error mitigation, and algorithmic building blocks
• Produce technical reports, publications, and deliverables for government and commercial programs
• Work directly with customers to scope and deliver proof-of-concept engagements
What We're Looking For
• PhD in physics, computer science, applied mathematics, or a closely related discipline
• Solid grounding in the circuit model, quantum error correction, and computational complexity
• Strong mathematical foundations spanning linear algebra, probability, and numerical methods
• A record of peer-reviewed papers, preprints, or comparable technical output
• Hands-on coding ability in a quantum-adjacent area such as simulation, compilation, resource estimation, or scientific computing
• Comfort scoping open-ended problems and owning deliverables with minimal supervision
• Working familiarity with current AI tooling and an appetite to apply it to accelerate research and development
• Strong command of Hamiltonian simulation methods and supporting primitives, including block encoding, qubitisation, and amplitude amplification
Nice to Have
• Track record of shipping software built on LLMs, AI agents, or other machine learning components
• Experience building developer tooling, scientific workflows, or research automation that uses AI to speed up expert work
• Clear communicator who collaborates easily across research and engineering
• Background in many-body physics, condensed matter, or quantum dynamics
