Position Overview
As a key member of our Emerging Technology team, the Quantum Computing Algorithm Specialist will focus on advancing quantum computing applications specifically within the insurance sector. In this role, you will be instrumental in developing and assessing quantum algorithmic solutions with the potential to revolutionize our industry. You'll also contribute to the creation of classical-compute solutions that deliver early business value while laying the groundwork for future quantum applications.
Your Responsibilities
Your primary goal in the first year will be to identify and explore use cases where quantum computing can add value to our insurance processes.
• Problem Identification: Collaborate with stakeholders to understand challenges in risk assessment, optimization, and decision-making, curate relevant insurance problems, and evaluate their potential for quantum advantage against classical solutions.
• Algorithm Development: Adapt and implement quantum algorithms for specific insurance problems, developing classical reference solutions to demonstrate early value, while designing hybrid approaches that leverage both quantum and classical strengths.
• Performance Analysis: Analyze and validate algorithm performance through simulations and experiments on quantum hardware, distilling findings into clear visualizations and evidence.
• Research and Collaboration: Engage with the latest quantum computing research, collaborate with internal teams and external partners, and contribute to the repository of knowledge at Travelers.
What We Seek in an Ideal Candidate
You should have:
• Hands-on experience in implementing and prototyping quantum algorithms, including proficiency with IBM Qiskit and familiarity with quantum hardware.
• A solid understanding of quantum algorithms such as QAOA, QAE, QUBO formulations, and VQE.
• A track record of moving from theoretical research to functional prototypes and experience conducting experiments.
• Strong classical programming skills in Python, with an emphasis on developing solutions that provide tangible business benefits.
• Excellent analytical skills with experience in optimization algorithms, data analysis, and machine learning techniques.
• Exceptional communication abilities to convey complex quantum concepts to diverse audiences.
• A Master’s degree in Physics, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field; a PhD is strongly preferred.
What’s in It for You?
• Comprehensive health insurance starting from the first day of employment for you and your eligible family members.
• 401(k) match program plus a fully funded pension plan.
• A minimum of 20 days of paid time off annually, plus nine paid company holidays.
• An extensive wellness program and mental health resources to support your well-being.
• Encouragement to engage in community service with matching gift and volunteer rewards programs.
Travelers is proud to be an equal opportunity employer, valuing the unique abilities and perspectives of every individual on our team.
