About This Role

Description

The Amazon Web Services (AWS) Center for Quantum Computing is seeking a passionate Quantum Research Scientist in the Fabrication group. You'll collaborate with a dynamic team of theoretical and experimental physicists, materials scientists, and both hardware and software engineers at the cutting edge of quantum computing technology. A strong foundation in various device fabrication techniques is essential for success in this role.

We prioritize candidates with a proven history of innovative scientific contributions. Ideal applicants will demonstrate strong engineering principles, creativity, and a proactive approach, alongside exceptional problem-solving and communication skills. The ability to work effectively in a team setting is crucial. As a research scientist, you will focus on exploring new concepts and keeping up-to-date with advancements in experimental quantum computation.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will enhance qubit performance by analyzing the effects of environmental and material noise on qubit behavior. Your tasks will include:

• Designing experiments to evaluate specific noise sources.

• Automating data collection to ensure statistically significant results.

• Analyzing experimental outcomes and preparing succinct summaries for team discussions.

• Collaborating with hardware engineers, material scientists, and circuit designers to implement strategies that reduce the most impactful noise sources.

Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be either a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum, or be able to secure a U.S. export license. Basic Qualifications

• Experience programming in Java, C++, Python, or related languages.

• Familiarity with SQL and an RDBMS (e.g., Oracle) or Data Warehouse.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience developing algorithms using both standard toolkits and custom-built code.

• Published works in renowned peer-reviewed conferences or journals.

The base salary for this position is between $136,000 and $184,000 annually. Your total compensation package may also include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors such as experience, qualifications, and location. Amazon provides comprehensive benefits, including health insurance, 401(k) matching, paid time off, and parental leave.
